Actress Wendy Wong marries

KUALA LUMPUR: Prominent actress and producer Wendy Wong has tied the knot with a businessman, after three years of courtship.

Wong, who embraced Islam two months ago, married businessman, Yacob Chik, 58, at the Perdana Felda Hall at Jalan Semarak yesterday.

She is now known as Wani Wendy Wong Abdullah.

The couple who have been dating for three years, held a simple wedding ceremony with the bridegroom presenting five trays of gifts. Among the gifts were a ring and a copy of the Quran which included a Mandarin translation.

The bride accepted the mas kahwin (dowry) of RM80. However, no wang hantaran (wedding gift) was given by the bridegroom — on Wani’s request.

The bride reciprocated with seven trays of gifts which included an Ogawa massage chair, a watch, a wallet and cologne. Wani said Yacob proposed during the last Hari Raya and she was not sure if she should accept his proposal

“Nevertheless, my heart was open to the proposal as he has managed to touch my heart in a lot of things. At that time, I was quite worried thinking about my family background which has a history of cancer.

“I asked myself, would he be willing to marry me if I was confirmed with the disease? He said everything is decided by Allah and he was willing to take care of me till eternity.

“Immediately after that, I did a health check-up and the report showed that my health was in good condition. With that, only was I confident enough to accept his proposal and started planning for our wedding ceremony,” said the delighted bride.

She added that she was attracted to the caring nature of Yacob and he had also taught her a lot about Islam. For their honeymoon, they would be going to Barcelona, Spain, followed by a cruise around Europe.

This is the first marriage for Wani and the second marriage for Yacob who divorced 10 years ago. Yacob has three daughters from his previous marriage.
