Don’t act like Jebat by rebelling against Sultan, PR told

KUALA KRAI (Feb 6, 2009):
Pakatan Rakyat (PR) was today told not to act like Hang Jebat, the 15th century Malay warrior who rebelled against the Malacca Sultan and went on a rampage on the belief that his friend Hang Tuah was unjustly murdered by the Sultan when he was actually alive.

Gua Musang Umno Youth head Bazlan Baharuddin said as the majority of members of PAS and Parti Keadilan Rakyat, two of the component parties in PR, were Malays, they should understand the position of the Sultan as the head of the state and religion.

He was responding to Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin’s refusal to step down as Perak Menteri Besar although decreed to do so by Sultan Azlan Shah yesterday, as he had lost the majority in the state assembly following the departure of four assemblymen from PR and supporting the Barisan Nasional.

“PR should not act irrationally as the Sultan was fair in making the decision, taking into consideration the interests of the people,” he said.

In fact, Bazlan added, PAS’ Spiritual Leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat accepted the decision as it was within the Sultan’s right and power. — Bernama
